Operational Bottleneck Review

Operational Bottleneck Review for Australian SMEs

Every business has one constraint that sets the pace for everything else. We find it — in workflow, people, systems or the owner's own desk — and build a 90-day plan to clear it, before you hire your way around it.

From $3,500 + GST. For a defined pricing, cash-flow, sales-pipeline or operational question. Scope confirmed at your free Fit Call.

The symptoms

Everyone is busy. Output is not growing. Costs are.

When a business hits an operational ceiling, the usual response is to add people, hours or software. If the bottleneck is untouched, all three just add cost while the queue moves somewhere else.

Everything waits on one person

Quotes, approvals, scheduling or technical decisions queue at a single desk — often the owner's — and the whole business moves at that person's pace.

Rework and firefighting are normal

Jobs are touched three times, errors are caught late, and the team spends the day reacting instead of producing.

Hiring didn't fix it

Headcount went up, output barely moved. The constraint was never capacity — it was flow.

What you get

The constraint, its weekly cost, and the plan to clear it.

The review follows the work as it actually moves through your business — not the org chart. You leave with a workflow map, a named bottleneck with its cost quantified, and a sequenced 90-day plan. Where the bottleneck turns out to be commercial rather than operational — pricing, sales visibility or working capital — the review says so plainly.

Common questions

Questions owners ask before booking.

How do I find the bottleneck in my business?

Look for where work queues: jobs waiting on one person's approval, quotes waiting on the owner, orders waiting on a machine, invoices waiting to be raised. The bottleneck is wherever the queue is longest — and in most owner-led businesses, the honest answer is the owner.

Is this the same as hiring an operations manager?

No — and doing this first usually makes that hire cheaper and better. The review defines what the operation actually needs before you commit $120k+ a year to a role scoped on guesswork.

We're a service business, not a factory. Does this still apply?

Yes. Bottlenecks in service businesses live in quoting, scheduling, approvals, handovers and invoicing rather than machines — and they cost margin the same way.

What if the bottleneck is me?

It usually is, at least partly. The review is designed to be direct about that: which decisions genuinely need you, which do not, and what structure lets the business run more than a fortnight without you.
